Its impact in pedal construction has to do with banning lead from being used in solder, circuit boards and chip construction.

Good article I always wondered about this RoHS and pb business. It never made sense to me with solder just for how little pb is in solder joints as compared to all those car batteries out there. The whisker thing I never heard of.
