[2551] Closeup of LEDs

This is a rectangular LED shot with a closeup lens. The plastic housing is so clear that the internal parts of the diode are easily visible.

Under different lighting conditions, the bond wire, that connects the anode on the left, with the semiconductor die on the right, is easily visible. The wire is so thin that it is hard to see with the naked eye without magnification.

The specks on the clear plastic are dust particles that are clinging to the LED. Next time I will know to clean the parts with anti-stat before photographing them!

The light-emitting die is in the center of the plastic package, on top of the larger internal fitting, which the wire is curving over to connect.

With a battery connected to the LED, we can see the red light being emitted from the die.

The background colors are different because I had to change the lighting to get a decent picture.
