Sometimes… it is all in how you think about it. LOL

If you rearrange the parts in the drawing, it looks like this:

We often get stuck thinking about circuits in specific ways, and when we see them drawn differently, they will appear unfamiliar.

This is funny. I think Q2 provides both the biasing DC for Q1 and acts, via C2, as a source follower for low output impedance. I’m puzzled about the amplification factor, could that (ideally) be 1M/1k?

i checked the link posted there by “admin.” i thought t he transistors in your schematic for this post were meant to be mosfets (n-channel type or whatever; BS170, 2N7000, etc) from the symbol used.

are these meant to just be JFETs (J113, 2N5457, MPF102, etc) like in the “ultra high gain high impedance amplifier” given in the other comment?

i would just give em both a whirl on the breadboard and see, but man i really kinda not so keen on blowing up more stuff right now if i can help it.

(actually i thoroughly enjoy blowing shit up, probably far past any healthy societal norms. but with the semiconductor issues afoot currently…)

and your site kicks ass and is one of the only reasons ive ever even began to be able to build pedals at all, so thank you forever, dude(s)….

The transistors in both schematics are jfet, like the J201 or 2N5457. Both schematics are the same circuit, just redrawn.
