This is an interesting schematic fragment that I found while doing a patent search recently. It is essentially a mu-follower made with p-channel jfets. This is quite similar to the mu-follower that was published in the National Semiconductor databook, and the basic building block of the mini-booster.
This circuit was obviously known before 1964 since it was quoted in the patent as prior art.
The bias voltage can be from a power supply, a battery or the junction of two resistors, as with the mini-booster. Vg is the gate voltage and it is typically 0 volts (grounded).
Hi,
I am researching the origins of the mu follower (original tube version) and have found an article dated 1958. Can you tell me in which patent you found the above diagram?
Cheers

Look at the mini-booster page for a patent that has a tube SRPP circuit that was a predecessor to this type of circuits.

Hi Jack,
I checked out that patent which turns out to be for an SSRP which is quite different from a mu follower – the link on the mini-booster page is even labelled as such.
Cheers
