AMZ PC Boards

ROHS Compliant I have etched and drilled printed circuit boards in stock for many of my projects. The boards are 0.062" thick FR4 material, two-layer construction with tin finish over 1 oz. copper and plated through holes. Most are sized to fit in the typical Hammond 1590B or similar box and have a mounting hole already drilled. Included with each board is a printed sheet with schematics, parts layout and suggested mods. AMZ pc boards are RoHS compliant and may be shipped to EU countries.

Once your order is placed, you will be sent (by email) a link to a special AMZ web page for customers only, which includes a wealth of information about using the parts you have purchased. For example, the page for germanium transistors includes schematics to several original designs never before published, such as the "Germanium Power Boost", "GE1 Fuzz", "GE2 Fuzz", "Brownie" and more! Different pages are sent for mosfet booster pcb, mini-booster pcb, germanium transistors and so on.

Most items on this page are printed circuit boards only. They are not kits and no other parts are included. The only exception is the DPDT relay pcb which includes the microprocessor (but no other parts).

3PDT Switch Board
This small pcb can simplify the wiring of the common blue 3PDT footswitch. It includes a place for an LED and its resistor.

Instructions with parts placement are located here. Board size: 1.0" x 0.925"

A single board is $1.50 US plus shipping. Order with another pcb
or postage will cost more than the board!

Buffer PCB
This pcb has been designed to be only a buffer board, and it can be constructed using a jfet transistor or a dual opamp as the active device. What makes the board special is that the input has been designed to duplicate the input circuitry of the typical tube amp, and it thereby preserves the interaction between the guitar's pickups and the buffer circuit. This makes the sound of the guitar more natural, with a similar resonant peak, while still providing a low impedance output drive for your cables and pedalboard.

A single pc board is $10.00 US plus shipping. I prefer Paypal payments.

Dual Boost PCB Dual Booster PCB
This pc board has layouts for two transistor booster circuits - bipolar, jfet or mosfet in either position! Use one booster to overdrive the other, or wire them so they can be used individually. The jfet can be a mini-booster or a common source amplifier. The bipolar and mosfet circuits are available in several different versions. Add a tone control for a custom distortion circuit of your own design. The board measures 2.1" x 1.3" (53.3mm x 33.0mm) and will fit many common pedal boxes. A link to a web page with detailed instructions for assembly and use is emailed to everyone who purchases the pc board. More information is available here.

Relay Bypass PCB True Bypass with Relay pcb
The AMZ Bypass pcb is a small (1" by 1") circuit board that contains an AVR microprocessor and a latching relay, which can be used with a soft-touch momentary switch to add true bypass to a new effects build, or even retrofit into an existing pedal. It can be used to upgrade Boss or Ibanez pedals from jfet switching to true bypass. Another application of the circuit would be to build a bypass box that can then be used with any pedal without going inside it and modifying the circuit. More information is available here. A link to a web page with detailed instructions for assembly and use is emailed to everyone who purchases the pc board.

Why buy boards from AMZ? - These boards are for projects and designs that I created. Shouldn't you support the original source so that more projects will be available in the future? AMZ projects are thoroughly tested and confirmed to operate properly. Also, I offer complete support for your construction project in the form of a special help page (url is on the printed sheet that comes with your board) and by email.

Are you interested in further information about the mini-booster and its derivatives? Then look at the AMZ Projects Newsletter and the information available on the AMZ CD-ROM!

Germanium Transistors

I have a limited stock of some nice AC128 germanium transistors (PNP), which are used in fuzzfaces, tone benders and other classic circuits. These are NOS Tungsram transistors in a TO-1 package.

Transistors have been tested and guaranteed less than 350uA leakage at 70°F.

A set of two AC128 transistors is $12.00 US plus shipping. Paypal payments are preferred. Order AC128 transistors

These are a selected pair of NOS Soviet germanium PNP transistors for use in Fuzzface or Tonebender circuits. The small transistor is used for Q1 and the larger transistor is Q2. Fuzzface schematic is here.

Transistors have been tested and guaranteed less than 350uA leakage at 70°F.

A set of two PNP-Ge transistors is $12.00 US plus shipping. Paypal payments are preferred. Order PNP-Ge transistors

These are 2N1309 germanium transistors (PNP), which are high gain (hfe>150) and excellent for a variety of vintage circuits. I suggest using one of them for Q2 in the Fuzzface or for HOT Rangemaster pedals. I checked a few for leakage and they were less than 100uA, with many less than 25uA. These are NOS and I got them from a supplier of military surplus parts.

Transistors have been tested and guaranteed less than 350uA leakage.

A set of two 2N1309 transistors is $12.00 US plus shipping. Paypal payments are preferred. Order 2N1309 transistors

These are 2N404 germanium transistors (PNP), which are low gain (hfe>30) and excellent for a variety of vintage circuits. I suggest using one of them for Q1 in the Fuzzface type pedals.

These NOS transistors are individually tested and guaranteed them to meet the minimum hfe specified above and have less than 350uA leakage.

A set of two 2N404 transistors is $12.00 US plus shipping. Paypal payments are preferred. Order 2N404 transistors

The AC188 is a PNP germanium transistor that is the penultimate in transistor distortion devices. Boutique pedal maker Jacques claims that this transistor "works miracles with electric guitars".
