I installed one of the Mosfet Booster modules in a small 1590A enclosure to make a tiny clean boost pedal.

I understand the space-saving and all that but Surface Mount Devices leave me cold. Call me old school or whatever (no, not really!) you will but “through-hole” resistors and caps look and can be handled much easier. I mean, if you need “tweezers” to pick up your components, where is the fun in that? Where is the color?
Looks like a Japanese computer board… Sorry.

It certainly is a concern that cheap components made to meet a low price point will not give stellar pe4rformance. However, by proper selection of resistors and capacitors, good results can definitely be achieved… most modern Protools recording interfaces are SMT and have very good sound.
Even so, lots of people like through-hole if only because of the ease of construction and the ability to modify the circuit to taste, which is why I will keep the through-hole pc boards available as long as I can get them!
Best regards, Jack
